Root Canal Treatment Melbourne

If you are experiencing severe tooth pain, heightened sensitivity to hot and cold, or localized swelling, you may require root canal therapy. At Yarraville Dental Clinic, our priority is to relieve your discomfort, clear underlying infections, and save your natural smile using gentle, state-of-the-art endodontic techniques.

What is Root Canal Treatment?

Root canal treatment (also known as endodontic therapy) is a routine dental procedure utilised to save a tooth that has become severely decayed, infected, or structurally damaged.

Deep inside each tooth sits the pulp chamber, which houses the nerves and vital blood vessels. When bacteria penetrate this area due to deep cavities or structural cracks, the pulp becomes inflamed and infected. If left untreated, this infection can lead to an abscess, severe chronic pain, and eventual tooth loss. Root canal therapy safely removes this damaged tissue, allowing you to retain your natural tooth structure and bite functionality.

I’m a fairly anxious dental patient so it means a lot to me to find a dentist who is understanding and is gentle and reassuring, while also being highly capable. Also, the fee was very reasonable. I have found my forever dentist! I highly recommend Yarraville Dental.

I am so happy to have come across Yarraville Dental. After years of not going to the dentist due to shame and dental anxiety, I had an emergency dental procedure I needed done. From the start the team were so lovely and accommodating. Booking in was so easy. I first saw Dr Abbah who was wonderful. I needed to go in again last minute and was worried as Dr Abbah was not in, but trusted the reputation of the practice, and I saw Dr Lara who was equally wonderful. I can feel Dr Abbah & Dr Lara genuinely care, they are so knowledgeable and don’t judge at all just want to help. I am happy to say I enjoy going to the dentist now. I can’t thank you enough.

Dr Lara is an amazing dentist! She is very kind and reassuring and has done some incredible work on my very complicated teeth! She always lays out all your options and advises you from a place of care rather than just trying to push the most expensive treatments, as many other dentists do. The reception staff are also really friendly and accommodating.

I have been seeing Lara Khan for about a year now and I am very happy with her service. She explains things well and her work is good. I sent my partner to see her recently for a tooth issue and he was also impressed. Highly recommend!

I recently had my veneers done at Yarraville Dental with Dr Lara, and the experience was nothing short of exceptional. From the very first consultation, Dr Lara was professional, approachable, and made me feel completely at ease. She explained the entire process clearly and took the time to ensure I was comfortable with every step.

The results have exceeded my expectations—my veneers look natural, beautiful, and I’ve already received so many compliments on my smile. What really stood out was not just the quality of the work, but also how affordable the treatment was compared to what I had expected for this level of care.

If you’re looking for a dentist who combines professionalism, skill, and genuine care with affordable options, I couldn’t recommend Dr Lara and the team at Yarraville Dental more highly.

FAQ's

No. Modern dental techniques and profound local anaesthetics ensure the procedure itself is virtually painless. Most patients report immediate relief from the throbbing pain of the tooth infection once the treatment begins.

Depending on the complexity of the tooth and the number of root canals involved, the treatment is typically completed over one to two comfortable visits.

Saving your natural tooth is always the preferred clinical outcome. Retaining your natural tooth prevents the surrounding teeth from shifting out of alignment, maintains your proper jawbone structure, and eliminates the need for more complex, costly tooth-replacement alternatives like dental implants or bridges.

The total cost depends on the complexity of the tooth. Front teeth have a single canal and are more straightforward, while back molars can have up to four canals. We provide a fully itemised treatment plan during your initial assessment so you know exactly what to expect before any treatment begins.

Yes, most patients return to their regular daily activities immediately after treatment. Your mouth will remain completely numb for a few hours, so we recommend avoiding hot drinks and solid chewing until the anaesthetic wears off completely to prevent accidentally biting your lip or tongue.
