What Are Dental Implants?

Dental implants are advanced tooth replacement solutions that use a small titanium implant placed into the jawbone to support a custom-made dental crown, bridge, or denture.

Unlike traditional tooth replacement options, dental implants replace the root portion of a missing tooth, providing a stable foundation that helps restore strength, function, and appearance.

A dental implant may be recommended for patients who have lost teeth due to:

dental hygiene

Benefits of Dental Implants

At Yarraville Dental, we use dental implants to help patients restore their smile, improve everyday comfort, and regain confidence when eating, speaking, and smiling.

Natural Appearance

Implants are designed to look and feel like natural teeth.

Long-Lasting Solution

With proper care, dental implants can last many years.

Improved Chewing Ability

Implants restore bite strength and allow patients to enjoy a wider range of foods.

Protect Jawbone Health

Dental implants help prevent bone loss that can occur after tooth loss.

Greater Confidence

Replacing missing teeth improves both appearance and self-confidence.

Types of Dental Implants

Every patient’s smile and oral health needs are different. Depending on how many teeth are missing and the condition of your jawbone, our dentists may recommend different types of dental implant treatments.

Single Tooth Dental Implants

A single dental implant is used to replace one missing tooth. It consists of a titanium implant placed into the jawbone, followed by a custom-made dental crown that restores the appearance and function of the missing tooth.

Single tooth implants are a popular choice because they provide a stable, natural-looking replacement without affecting neighbouring teeth.

Multiple Dental Implants

If you are missing several teeth, multiple dental implants can be used to support a bridge or several individual crowns.

This option provides greater stability compared with removable alternatives and can help restore your ability to chew comfortably while improving your smile.

Implant-Supported Dentures

For patients who are missing multiple teeth or all teeth in an arch, implant-supported dentures can provide a more secure alternative to traditional dentures.

Instead of resting loosely on the gums, these dentures are attached to dental implants, helping reduce movement and improving comfort and confidence.

The Dental Implant Procedure

The dental implant process typically involves several stages to ensure optimal results.

Dental Implants vs Dentures

Many patients considering tooth replacement compare dental implants with traditional dentures. Both options can restore missing teeth, but they work differently.

Dental ImplantsDentures
Fixed securely in the jawboneRemovable option
Feel closer to natural teethMay require adjustment over time
Help support jawbone healthDo not replace the tooth root
Provide strong chewing abilityMay have movement while eating
Long-term restoration optionOften requires ongoing maintenance

Dental Implants vs Dental Bridges

A dental bridge is another option for replacing missing teeth. Unlike implants, bridges use neighbouring teeth as support for the replacement tooth.

Dental Implants

Replace the missing tooth root. Do not require altering nearby healthy teeth. Provide strong support and stability. Help maintain jawbone stimulation.

Dental Bridges

Can replace missing teeth without surgery. May be suitable in certain situations. Use adjacent teeth for support.

I am so happy to have come across Yarraville Dental. After years of not going to the dentist due to shame and dental anxiety, I had an emergency dental procedure I needed done. From the start the team were so lovely and accommodating. Booking in was so easy. I first saw Dr Abbah who was wonderful. I needed to go in again last minute and was worried as Dr Abbah was not in, but trusted the reputation of the practice, and I saw Dr Lara who was equally wonderful. I can feel Dr Abbah & Dr Lara genuinely care, they are so knowledgeable and don’t judge at all just want to help. I am happy to say I enjoy going to the dentist now. I can’t thank you enough.

Dr Lara is an amazing dentist! She is very kind and reassuring and has done some incredible work on my very complicated teeth! She always lays out all your options and advises you from a place of care rather than just trying to push the most expensive treatments, as many other dentists do. The reception staff are also really friendly and accommodating.

I have been seeing Lara Khan for about a year now and I am very happy with her service. She explains things well and her work is good. I sent my partner to see her recently for a tooth issue and he was also impressed. Highly recommend!

I recently had my veneers done at Yarraville Dental with Dr Lara, and the experience was nothing short of exceptional. From the very first consultation, Dr Lara was professional, approachable, and made me feel completely at ease. She explained the entire process clearly and took the time to ensure I was comfortable with every step.

The results have exceeded my expectations—my veneers look natural, beautiful, and I’ve already received so many compliments on my smile. What really stood out was not just the quality of the work, but also how affordable the treatment was compared to what I had expected for this level of care.

If you’re looking for a dentist who combines professionalism, skill, and genuine care with affordable options, I couldn’t recommend Dr Lara and the team at Yarraville Dental more highly.

FAQ's

Dental implant treatment is performed with appropriate anaesthesia to ensure your comfort during the procedure. Some patients experience mild swelling or tenderness afterwards, which usually improves as the area heals.

The timeline varies depending on your individual treatment plan. Factors such as healing time, bone health, and the type of restoration required can affect the overall process.

Dental implants provide a fixed and stable tooth replacement option, while dentures are removable. Many patients prefer implants because they feel more natural and provide improved stability when eating and speaking.

Many adults with missing teeth are suitable candidates for dental implants. However, factors such as bone density, gum health, and overall health need to be assessed before treatment.

Brushing twice daily.
Cleaning between teeth regularly.
Attending routine dental check-ups.
Maintaining healthy gums.
Following your dentist’s advice.

The cost of dental implants depends on several factors, including the number of implants required, the type of restoration, and whether additional procedures are needed.
