Dental Crown & Tooth Crown

Dental Crowns

In-case a tooth gets chipped badly, broken or damaged, a protective cover or “crown” can be fitted over the underlying structure. Crowns used to be made from porcelain – However, these days. Hard-wearing ceramic is used as it is stronger and also aesthetically superior. After shaping the underlying tooth our dentist will take an impression for use through the dental laboratory. We do Careful colour matching to ensure that the crown matches the surrounding teeth. However, the dental laboratory uses the impression to manufacture the finished crown. Yet, whilst this process is underway, typically for just a few days, a temporary crown will be fitted. On the other hand, our dentist will fit the finished crown using a special bonding agent.

Dental Bridges

A dental bridge is a special dental construction or “bridge” that can be used to fill the gap. The dental laboratory prepares the bridge structure which incorporates a hollow crown to replace the missing tooth. Because the replacement tooth is colour matched to your natural teeth to ensure a natural result. The replacement tooth is bonded to the adjacent teeth to neatly fill the gap. Bridge is more permanent than dentures but less invasive than implants – However, our highly trained dental team will advise exactly which dental technique is best suited to your situation. What Are Dental Crowns?

Dental crowns are custom-made restorations that strengthen, protect, and restore damaged or weakened teeth. Also known as tooth caps, they cover the visible part of a tooth to restore its shape, size, function, and natural appearance.

Crowns are commonly recommended for teeth affected by decay, cracks, large fillings, root canal treatment, or to complete a dental implant. They help protect the remaining tooth structure while restoring your ability to eat, speak, and smile with confidence.

At Yarraville Dental, we offer high-quality porcelain, zirconia, and other ceramic crowns tailored to your individual needs. During your consultation, our experienced dentists will explain the available options and recommend the most suitable crown based on your oral health, aesthetic goals, durability requirements, and budget.

Dental Crowns After Root Canal Treatment

A common question we hear is, “Do I need a dental crown after a root canal?” The answer depends on the location and condition of the treated tooth, but in many cases, a dental crown is the best way to protect it.

During root canal treatment, the infected pulp inside the tooth is removed to save the natural tooth. Although this eliminates the infection, the tooth may become more brittle over time, particularly if a large amount of its structure has already been lost due to decay or previous fillings.

A custom-made dental crown reinforces the tooth by covering and protecting it from further damage, allowing you to bite and chew with confidence while preserving your natural smile.

Dental Crowns vs Fillings – What's the Difference?

Many patients wonder whether they need a filling or a dental crown. While both treatments restore damaged teeth, they are used in different situations.

A dental filling

typically recommended when a tooth has a small to moderate area of decay or minor damage. The filling restores the affected portion while preserving most of the natural tooth.

A dental crown

generally recommended when a tooth has lost a significant amount of structure due to decay, fractures, large fillings, or root canal treatment. Rather than repairing only one section of the tooth, a crown covers the entire visible surface, providing additional strength and protection.

Do You Have Any Questions?

Dental Bridges – An Alternative for Replacing Missing Teeth

While dental crowns are designed to restore and strengthen damaged teeth, a dental bridge may be recommended when one or more teeth are missing.

A dental bridge uses the healthy teeth on either side of the gap to support an artificial tooth (or teeth), restoring your smile and helping maintain your ability to eat and speak comfortably. Dental bridges can also prevent neighbouring teeth from shifting into the empty space, which may affect your bite and oral health over time.

At Yarraville Dental, we’ll carefully assess your oral health and discuss whether a dental crown, dental bridge, or another restorative treatment such as a dental implant is the most suitable option for your needs.

I am so happy to have come across Yarraville Dental. After years of not going to the dentist due to shame and dental anxiety, I had an emergency dental procedure I needed done. From the start the team were so lovely and accommodating. Booking in was so easy. I first saw Dr Abbah who was wonderful. I needed to go in again last minute and was worried as Dr Abbah was not in, but trusted the reputation of the practice, and I saw Dr Lara who was equally wonderful. I can feel Dr Abbah & Dr Lara genuinely care, they are so knowledgeable and don’t judge at all just want to help. I am happy to say I enjoy going to the dentist now. I can’t thank you enough.

Dr Lara is an amazing dentist! She is very kind and reassuring and has done some incredible work on my very complicated teeth! She always lays out all your options and advises you from a place of care rather than just trying to push the most expensive treatments, as many other dentists do. The reception staff are also really friendly and accommodating.

I recently had my veneers done at Yarraville Dental with Dr Lara, and the experience was nothing short of exceptional. From the very first consultation, Dr Lara was professional, approachable, and made me feel completely at ease. She explained the entire process clearly and took the time to ensure I was comfortable with every step.

The results have exceeded my expectations—my veneers look natural, beautiful, and I’ve already received so many compliments on my smile. What really stood out was not just the quality of the work, but also how affordable the treatment was compared to what I had expected for this level of care.

If you’re looking for a dentist who combines professionalism, skill, and genuine care with affordable options, I couldn’t recommend Dr Lara and the team at Yarraville Dental more highly.
